Western Movies and Books

In Association with

A number of visitors to this site have inquired about various classic (well, sometimes just fondly remembered) western movies that they would like to see again. I've done some checking on the web to find the company that offers the greatest number of both books and videos and have decided to go with

In this section of the bunkhouse I can recommend a number of my favorites--and present links to's pages devoted to them. Please check them out! (See bottom of page for links to movie history book/video recommendations.)

First, here is a list of performers and highly recommended western movies that feature these stars. (Note: Not all of these movies are classics--but they do offer much entertainment value. I feel that each one of them often represents that particular star's best work in westerns--even if it was made rather early in that star's career.) A new browser will open when you click on a link.

As for recent westerns, here are a few links. Although these movies--except "Ride" perhaps, which I definitely do recommend--probably won't qualify as classics, a true western aficionado will want to view them nonetheless.

Ride With The Devil (1999) American Outlaws (2001) Texas Rangers (2001)

If you are interested in western novels, I suggest Zane Grey (The Last Trail), Louis L'Amour (Mojave Crossing), Clarence E. Mulford ( Hopalong Cassidy), Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove), or just type western novels or westerns in the search box below. Typing in western movies will bring up books about the genre.

If you want to do your own search (for any subject, actually), just type in your request into this search engine to find out if it is available.
