James Stewart's Horse

Jimmy Stewart's career was re-invigorated after World War II when he made
Winchester '73 (1950) at Universal. Over the next twenty years his most regular western film co-star was "Pie", the horse that appeared with him in 17 movies. Just as he typically wore a stained, worn-looking cowboy hat when playing his cowboy roles (and even when off camera on many other movie sets), Pie was something of a good luck charm as well as an old friend. For some comments from Jimmy concerning his favorite horse, listen to this RealAudio sound clip from "James Stewart: A Wonderful Life," in which Jimmy was interviewed by Johnny Carson.
